Concord, NH — In advance of the Democrat press conference today, the New Hampshire Republican Party today called out Senate Democrats for their less affordable agenda that will only be paid for by higher taxes and tolls.
“Democrats talk a big game on affordability, but every policy they put forward would make New Hampshire look more like Massachusetts,” said NHGOP Chairman Jim MacEachern. “You can’t claim to help working families when you’re trying to slap them with an income tax, a sales tax, and a toll hike all at once.”
“The Democrats tax agenda would make life less affordable for Granite Staters,” MacEachern said. “Higher taxes might work in Massachusetts, but Granite Staters never let that happen.
As Governor Kelly Ayotte and Republican majorities work to strengthen the economy, lower costs, and protect New Hampshire’s tax-free tradition, Democrats are charting a very different course, one that makes the state less competitive, less affordable, and less free.
Ahead of the Democrats’ press conference, reporters may find the following questions helpful in clarifying where the Democrats actually stand on affordability:
- If New Hampshire Democrats want to make things more affordable, why did a member of your party propose bringing back more than half a billion dollars in tax hikes?
- If Democrats want to lower costs, why did your party file a bill to raise tolls?
- Recent news shows businesses and families are leaving Massachusetts in droves thanks to higher taxes. Why would Democrats follow their lead and raise taxes when it’s clear the New Hampshire model works?
