Concord, NH — Today, the New Hampshire Republican Party celebrated the official ban of sanctuary cities in the Granite State, marking a major victory for public safety and the rule of law.
Sanctuary cities, often falsely referred to by Democrats as “welcoming cities”, are now BANNED in New Hampshire. Republican leaders praised Governor Kelly Ayotte for her leadership in making public safety a top priority and thanked Republican majorities in Concord for delivering on their promise to keep New Hampshire safe, prosperous, and free.
“Today is about drawing a clear line,” said State Senator Bill Gannon. “New Hampshire will never go the way of Massachusetts and its billion-dollar illegal immigration crisis. I was proud to work on this legislation and even prouder to see Governor Ayotte lead the charge to make sure our laws stand with law enforcement, protect our communities, and reject the dangerous policies being pushed by our neighbors.”
“Threats to law enforcement or efforts to obstruct them will not be tolerated in New Hampshire,” said House Deputy Majority Leader Joe Sweeney. “We are not a sanctuary to criminals who enter this country illegally. Thanks to Governor Ayotte’s leadership and Republican majorities in the Legislature, we kept our promise to Granite Staters and made it clear that New Hampshire will not be MASSed up.”
Despite repeated claims from Democrats that sanctuary policies did not exist in New Hampshire, towns and cities across the state have already taken steps to come into compliance with federal immigration law.
“We won’t let our state go the way of Massachusetts and their billion-dollar illegal immigration crisis,” said Governor Kelly Ayotte. “New Hampshire has made it clear that we will never be a sanctuary for criminals who are in our country illegally, and we will keep working every day to remain the safest state in the nation.”
