Statement from NH GOP Chair Jeanie Forrester on Kevin Cavanaugh’s support for making Manchester a Sanctuary City
Today, the New Hampshire Republican Party is calling on Kevin Cavanaugh to clarify his proposal to impose sanctuary city status on the city of Manchester.
Last night at the League of Women Voters Candidate forum, Manchester Alderman and State Senate candidate Kevin Cavanaugh reiterated his support for making Manchester a sanctuary city. When asked by a Bow voter if he believed that Manchester should become a sanctuary city, Cavanaugh responded, “I think we should accept people. Yes I think we should…that’s a great process to bring people into this country and to make them American Citizens.”
NH GOP Chair Jeanie Forrester released the following statement regarding Cavanaugh’s comments:
“Imposing sanctuary city status on Manchester or any other city or town in New Hampshire is both foolish and dangerous. Sanctuary cities from Baltimore to Chicago have seen consistently higher rates of violent crime than non-sanctuary cities. This is on top of the potential loss of federal funding that will almost certainly accompany the designation. Cavanaugh’s proposal risks both the safety and well-being of every man, woman and child in Manchester and throughout the state.”
“We simply cannot put our children at risk for Kevin Cavanaugh’s short-term political gain.”
