Statement from NH GOP Chair Jeanie Forrester on confused Kevin Cavanaugh and his flip on Sanctuary Cities
CONCORD – NH GOP Chair Jeanie Forrester is calling out Kevin Cavanaugh, Democratic Nominee for State Senate in the upcoming special election, for holding two distinct positions on Sanctuary Cities and showcasing a misunderstanding of the legal implications Sanctuary Cities create.
“Publicly, Kevin Cavanaugh supports making Manchester a Sanctuary City and stated at a June voter forum that he believes “we should accept people” when asked about accepting illegal immigrants to Manchester and shielding them from federal law enforcement. This is the same policy we have seen fail in cities across the nation as those here illegally are attracted to cities where they can run rampant without fear of the Federal immigration officials coordinating efforts with local police.”
“Despite this public declaration of support, Kevin Cavanaugh’s opinions seem to change when he is behind closed doors. In an effort to appear mainstream to the New Hampshire Union Leader, Cavanaugh blatantly flipped his opinion 180 degrees to show support for local law enforcement reporting immigration cases to the Federal government.”
“Either Kevin Cavanaugh has a public position on sanctuary cities to appeal to a leftward moving Democratic base and a private opinion for newspaper editors, or he simply does not understand the issues Sanctuary cities create for communities who implement them. What other policy points does Cavanaugh simply not understand?”
“Luckily, the voters of Senate District 16 who appreciate an honest person with a firm understanding of policy have the option of supporting David Boutin on Tuesday, July 25.”
